A 30-inch gas line owned by Enbridge, Inc., exploded in rural Noble County, destroying three homes and scorching three more. Flares from the blast towered up to 80 feet high. According to the Daily Jeffersonian, the ruptured pipeline was installed in 1952.

A well pad explosion and fire at XTO Energy's Powhatan Point, OH site prompted a mandatory one-mile evacuation radius for residents living near the Powhatan Point, OH, site. First responders from across the country rushed to the area to help activate emergency response procedures. A U.S. EPA report estimates that the damaged well leaked methane at a rate of 80 tons an hour for nearly 20 days, one of the largest methane leaks in American history.
